January 29, 2018 – Livingston, Ca – The 51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha Team was ready to go for it in Glendale for round 4 of the 2018 Supercross season. Both riders entered the night in the Top 10 in the series standings after solid finishes in the prior three rounds. Saturday came early as the team was coming off an eventful Friday night with a packed Autograph Signing at Ride Now Powersports and then dinner to celebrate the teams resident maniac and, somehow, voice-of-reason, Brent “China” Mryon’s birthday.

On Saturday, it was an honor to have team sponsor, Allied Packaging, on hand throughout the day watching with team staff as Mellross and Chisholm learned the track in practice and qualifying. The boys adapted quickly to the fast and jumpy track, posting solid times and securing their spots on the grid for the night show.

Both riders lined up for Heat 1 looking for a direct transfer to the Main. Chiz got off to a great start, letting his Yamaha YZ250F rip down the longest straight away of the season. Mellross clipped a down rider early on lap one and was forced to come from the back. The #11 of Chisholm stayed with the front runners and finished 5th at the line. With his work cut out for him, Mellross made a key last lap pass that secured his spot in the 250 Main.

The opening laps of the Main Event were hectic as riders battled for position. Chisholm solidified his place inside the Top 10, while Mellross unfortunately found himself on the ground tangled with another rider. He was able to compose himself and regroup as he set his sights on the riders ahead of him. Meanwhile, the ever-consistent Chisholm was able to click off solid laps. At the checkers it was Chisholm 9th, Mellross 14th.

“I’m happy with another solid Top 10,” said Chisholm. “I actually thought I was riding tight in the heat race, but it’s good to finish up front like that and have times that were close to the leaders. In the Main I was able to click off consistent laps and take advantage of other rider’s mistakes. The bike’s great, my fitness is up to par, and I’m ready to keep the momentum moving forward.”

“Arizona was a tough weekend for me. I was involved in an unlucky crash in my heat race and also crashed another two times in the Main,” Mellross stated after the race. “DI wasn’t riding myself this weekend but I’m going to train extremely hard and do everything I can to bound back this coming weekend in Oakland.”

This weekend, the 51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha team arrives in Oakland early for the Feld Press Day on Friday from 1:00-2:15. The team welcomes all Media to join and 1-1 interviews will be accommodated.
