The AMA Pro Motocross Championship is coming off its first break of the season, and Team Honda HRC’s Ken Roczen used the extra week to continue his training and testing, as injury forced him to enter the series with very little of either. The previous round saw the German finish on the podium and advanced to fifth in the series points standings, and he’ll be looking to continue that progress this weekend at the High Point national.
Coming off a 250MX win at the previous round, GEICO Honda’s Jeremy Martin is also leading the points standings coming into Mt. Morris, Pennsylvania, for this weekend’s High Point national, an event that is rich in history. Teammates Chase Sexton and RJ Hampshire are seventh and eighth, respectively.
Marc Marquez & Dani Pedrosa
The Repsol Honda Team is heading to the newly resurfaced Circuit de Catalunya for Round 7 of the MotoGP season. Championship leader Marc Marquez and teammate Dani Pedrosa had the chance to test the new asphalt and the track's updated layout before the Italian GP. The runoff area for turn 13 has been worked on, track officials enlarging it by more than 20 meters while also removing the surrounding grandstands. The bank angle of turn 10 and 11 has also been altered. As is the case with other six rounds this season, the Catalan Grand Prix will be shortened compared to previous years, changing from 25 laps to 24.
Team HRC is looking forward to racing in front of its home crowd this weekend as the Motocross World Championship heads back to Italy for the third of three back-to-back rounds before the two-event flyaway trip to Indonesia. At Ottobiano, the team will be back at full capacity with Australia's Todd Waters rejoining teammates Tim Gajser and Calvin Vlaanderen after a three-round absence due to injury. The MXGP of Lombardia is around the corner in every way: the team's headquarters in Gorla Minore, Varese, is in fact a short drive from the Ottobiano motorsport complex, which joined the MXGP calendar only last year.
After the only event outside Europe, the TrialGP World Championship returns to action this weekend on the Old Continent. Toni Bou and Takahisa Fujinami are both scheduled to compete in the TrialGP Andorra, the third round of the top category and a key event for the Repsol Honda Team, which it hopes to field its riders in better physical shape than in the most recent world championship events.
The ATV Motocross series heads to Walnut, Illinois, for this weekend’s Sunset Ridge round, with Rockford Fosgate/TiLube Honda’s Joel Hetrick riding the momentum of a two-race win streak. That said, this is the hometown race for series rival and points leader Chad Wienen, but Hetrick will nonetheless be looking to make up his three-point deficit as he works to successfully defend his title.
