March 26, 2018 – Livingston, CA – The 51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha Race Team was back in action for the first East/West Showdown. Chisholm was on board the #11 Yamaha YZ250F after racing a Yamaha YZ450F during the ‘East’ rounds while Mellross used the time to practice, train, and hone his craft for the duration of the season. While the overall night results fell short of team expectations, both riders remain the Top 10 in series standings.

In the 250 West Heat Race, Mellross ran as high as 3rd before settling into a pace and transferring into the main event with a 7th place finish. He proved that he has what it takes to run up front and that the mid-season break was used to it’s full advantage. Chisholm on the other hand was running in tow with Mellross before another rider jumped into him in the final corner. The #11 ended up going down and suffered severe bruising and swelling to the left side of his body including his arm, hand, and side.

Chiz came out swinging in the 250 LCQ and secured first position just a few corners into the race. He would run away with the lead and land some quality TV time for our team and sponsors. Kyle took his 51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha YZ250F to the LCQ victory with a 3 second lead and secured his spot in the East/West Showdown.

The best of the 250 Supercross racers lined up for the Main Event and the 51FIFTY racers both put themselves in good positions early on. Hayden and Kyle rode consistent laps on the soft, rutted track and continued to push forward as the laps wore on. Mellross dislocated his shoulder in the challenging whoop section and would be forced to retire from the race. Chisholm continued to battle through the pack and crossed the line in 12th.

“Tonight wasn’t exactly the night I had in mind,” Mellross mentioned after the race. “Unfortunately, in the main I got kicked hard in the whoops and the bike got totally sideways. I didn’t go down but my shoulder ended up popping out of the socket. There’s no way I could’ve kept going and I’m very grateful for the medical team for their help.”

“I was really excited to get back on the 250,” said Chisholm. “I felt good all day and was pumped to put in a Top 10 practice time. I had that transfer in the Heat, but ended up getting taken out which was kind of a bummer. My body got pretty beat up but I was still able to get it done in the LCQ. That was my first 250 LCQ win and it’s awesome to get that done for the team. I was consistent in the Main and held it down with a bunch of the factory boys. Overall, I’m pretty satisfied and excited to keep moving forward.”
