The day after round two of the 2016 Monster Energy Supercross Series in San Diego, news came from Justin Barcia’s camp that the Monster Energy/AutoTrader.com/Toyota/Yamaha rider was involved in a preseason mountain bike riding crash and injured the Ulnar Collateral Ligament in his thumb. This explained his poor finishes in the first two rounds, where Barcia was expected to be a title contender but struggled to get through the twenty-lap main events. Surgery was required to fix the issue and with that, Barcia’s SX season came to a sudden end.
In the time since, Barcia has focused his limited training abilities on road bicycle riding with camps in Arizona and the Southeast. At the 2016 Atlanta SX, we bumped into Barcia and learned more about his injury and when he will return to action.
